Bedford Boys Tribute Center highlights international visitors, documentary and Normandy plaque

Ken Parker addressed the Board of Supervisors during citizen comment on Feb. 10 to update the board on the Bedford Boys Tribute Center’s recent activities and outreach.
Parker said the center has recorded about 21,000 visitors from all 50 states and 34 countries and that in 2024 the center marked the 80th anniversary of the Bedford boys’ service with expanded exhibits. He described producing a documentary, 'We Have Casualties,' completed after roughly seven months of work, and said the center arranged for a 2-by-3-foot granite plaque listing each Bedford boy to be mounted at a gun-emplacement memorial in Normandy. Parker said the memorial location receives about 500,000 visitors a year.
He also announced that an Arleigh Burke–class destroyer coming off the line will be christened the USS Bedford Boys and that starting April 1 the center will show a virtual-reality documentary of the first-wave landing in the museum’s classroom and auditorium. Parker provided board members with photographs and a thumb drive containing the ceremony and supporting images.
