Virginia standards commission presents accreditation to Bedford County Sheriff’s Office

Todd Klingenfeld, program manager for the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, told the Bedford County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 10 that assessors visited the sheriff’s office in October 2025 and reviewed administration, operations, training, personnel, property, evidence and records as part of the accreditation process.
Klingenfeld said the program includes more than 570 bullets and 193 standards that agencies must meet and that of more than 400 agencies in the Commonwealth, only about 115 are accredited through the program. He said assessors were impressed with the professionalism and responsiveness of the Sheriff’s Office and complimented Sheriff Miller and staff by name, calling the office “a model for professionalism, trust, honesty, and effectiveness.”
The presentation recognized specific staff and the broader community’s role in meeting accreditation standards. No formal vote was required to accept the presentation; the board offered congratulations to Sheriff Miller and his staff.
