Library reports 100,000 registered borrower records with caveats; $40,000 collections request heads to city council

He said the library has averaged roughly 700 new cards per month while at the mall and that a fuller comparison will be possible after a full year of mall operations.
Reno also reviewed circulation and interlibrary-loan activity: physical and digital checkouts remained near the 30,000 range while at the mall, and the library is borrowing more through LinkPlus than it is lending — a pattern staff said likely reflects increased local patron use and changes in the wider LinkPlus network.
On state initiatives, Reno described the "student success card" concept to give school-age children library access via school IDs; he said the library is exploring options but has not adopted the program and continues to offer digital-only Libby cards as an alternative.
City staff told trustees that a request to transfer $40,000 from the trust to the library collections budget will go to city council on the 18th and is currently on the consent calendar; staff said they will attend council if the item is pulled.
The director noted recent media coverage, including a brief Fox 5 KUSI segment that featured the mall location and renovation preview. Trustees discussed advocacy steps to press the collections request to council if needed.
