Board delays vote on District 5 road resurfacing to resolve scope and timing concerns

Calaveras County supervisors voted Jan. 27 to pull and reschedule an agenda item that would have authorized the Department of Public Works to solicit bids for the 2025–26 District 5 Road Resurfacing and Paving Program.
Public Works staff explained the package includes plans, specifications and estimates and that add‑alternate options would be included in case bids exceed budget. Staff said some portions (for example parts of Baldwin Road) were previously planned as partial segments but have been rescoped to cover the full length to avoid future disruptions; they warned that bids and asphalt prices could cause cost changes.
Supervisors asked whether delaying the item two weeks would jeopardize a spring construction schedule and whether coordination with the Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) would allow a single paving contract rather than split work that could increase costs. Staff said the department has SP‑1 funds committed to the project and that a short delay to Feb. 10 should still allow a spring timeline. The board agreed to return the item with more detail and a recommended path forward.
