Bluffton mayor highlights new Riverside Park barn; '70 bookings already' for weekends

Bluffton Mayor Larry Toomer said the town’s new event barn at the 37-acre New Riverside Park is open and already in strong demand, with about "70 bookings already just for the remainder of this year on the weekends," the mayor told the Beaufort County Reports program. The facility, which the mayor described as the barn portion of the park, is intended as a venue for weddings, parties and family reunions.
The barn is part of a larger park project that the town acquired and planned with community input, Toomer said. "When we first had the opportunity, the town had an opportunity to purchase this property... We we had people that lived here. We did like a charrette and let people come in and tell us what they wanted," he said, crediting council and staff for support in bringing the project to residents.
On how to book the space, Toomer said interested parties should contact the Town of Bluffton and follow the town’s rental process. He added that fees differ for nonresidents but the program did not provide the fee schedule. "The fees are different from nonresidents," Toomer said; the mayor did not provide dollar amounts or a full outline of residency requirements during the interview.
Toomer said the barn itself is complete and available for events, and that additional park improvements are still planned. "This facility is completed now and ready for parties or weddings or whatever, but we're still have a lot more that we're gonna do on the park as far as trails and and more improvements," he said, indicating work on trails and other park features will continue.
The mayor encouraged early booking given weekend demand. "So you better plan ahead if you want this facility because everybody does," he said. The town did not provide a formal opening date for the park as a whole, construction costs, the administration’s policies on refunds or cancellations, or the full rental fee schedule during the broadcast.
The barn is available to Bluffton residents and nonresidents; the mayor said nonresidents pay different fees. For more information, prospective renters should contact the Town of Bluffton.
