Trustee proposes board liaison to Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program; board seeks policy guidance

Trustee Tim asked the board to consider establishing a liaison to the Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program (CSSP), a long-running local organization that hosts Bronx high-school students for summer academic enrichment and pairs them with Chappaqua host families.

"It’s a local organization… it's been operating since 1968," Tim said while outlining CSSP’s programming, host-family model and tutoring supports. He argued a liaison would formalize the district’s stewardship relationship with the organization and said he hoped the board would consider an appropriate governance process.

Board members sought clarification about how liaisons are appointed and whether the board has a policy defining liaison duties, term lengths and reporting expectations. The board president suggested a policy-committee review or a taped work session so the discussion would be on the record.

Next step: trustees agreed to move the item to a work session or the policy committee for further discussion and to develop a process for future liaison requests.
