Council members voted in favor of authorizing the mayor to execute settlement documents related to Purdue and the Sackler family and then separately authorized participation with secondary manufacturers. Both motions carried by voice vote.
A council speaker noted the likely city recovery would be modest: "the likelihood is that between these, there were somewhere between 5 and $30,000," the speaker said. Council members discussed that the amounts would represent a small budgetary receipt but agreed it made sense to allow the city to participate rather than leave potential funds untapped.
No further allocations or uses of any settlement funds were decided at the meeting; one council member asked how received funds would be used and the chair said that would be addressed if and when the city actually receives payment.
