Brighton board approves SEQR and capital project steps, accepts financial reports and MOA with teachers

The Brighton Central School District Board of Education on Oct. 1 approved several routine but consequential items as it continues the district—apital and budget work.
The board approved a State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR) resolution necessary to proceed with the Council Rock primary school Phase 2 capital improvement project and separately approved the capital project resolution itself. Trustees also named election inspectors for the Dec. 4 capital project vote.
On finance, the audit committee reported it had reviewed the annual financial statements for the period ending June 30, 2024, and recommended acceptance; the board moved to accept the financial statements and the associated corrective action plans. A board member noted the statements had not been widely posted online at the time of the meeting and said they would be made available.
The board also approved second-read policies on remote instruction (Policy 7150), student suicide (Policy 7540) and bylaws for regular board meetings (Policy 1510), and unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement with the Brighton Teachers Association. A construction change order over $50,000 was likewise approved.
All motions were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote with "Aye" from the board. No recorded roll-call tallies with member-by-member votes were announced in the meeting transcript.
