Nominations for chair included Allen and Rachel Clark. Commissioners reported an initial tie; the commission’s attorney, Jake, advised rerunning nominations and votes. After the re-vote Commissioner Allen received the plurality and was declared chair. Commissioners then voted to make Rachel Clark the vice chair by voice vote. Paul clarified that the person elected tonight will serve as chair through Jan. 2027.
The election drew discussion about how long an elected chair should serve and practical implications for staff distribution of meeting materials. Commissioners also discussed voting procedures and the role of the vice chair to assume the chair’s duties when needed.
Next steps: newly elected leadership will preside over upcoming agenda items and work with staff on dissemination of the revised rules and procedures scheduled for a February vote.
