The Suamico Village Board heard an informational presentation from the fire department about upcoming apparatus replacements and approved a recycling cooperative agreement with Brown County.
Fire officials said the village’s next two tenders are scheduled for replacement within four years and that vendor guidance anticipates higher prices because of new emissions standards and long lead times. "From their guessing is between $60,000 or $60,000 to $100,000 in the next year," a fire representative told the board. Staff said lead times for specialized electrical components and transfer switches can be 12–18 months and that ordering sooner may be necessary to meet multi-year replacement schedules.
Trustees asked staff to bring back refurbishment cost estimates, resale value projections, run-time hours for existing vehicles and longevity comparisons so the board can evaluate buy-new vs. refurbish options before a formal purchase decision. Staff said a formal proposal with vendor quotes will be presented at a future board meeting.
On a separate item, Director Smith recommended signing a cooperative agreement with Tri-County recycling to maintain eligibility for an annual DNR recycling grant (which typically provides about $20,000–$25,000). Trustee Eckert moved and Trustee Andrews seconded a motion to approve Resolution 24,011 and to sign the agreement with Brown County; roll call was unanimous, 6-0.
