The Suamico Village Board selected Nicole (Nikki) McKeefrey to fill an interim trustee seat Monday after interviewing six applicants.
Administrator Caker explained the application and interview process and said six candidates remained after two withdrawals. Each candidate addressed trustees on priorities and experience; McKeefrey described herself as "a long-term resident of Suamico" with a background in business administration and an interest in balancing growth with preserving village character.
Trustee Stevens made an initial motion to appoint Andy Congdon; the motion failed on a 3-3 tie. Trustee Andrews then moved to appoint Nicole McKeefrey, with Trustee Romas seconding. On a roll call the motion carried 5 to 1.
Board members clarified that, if appointed, the new trustee would be sworn in at the next meeting rather than being seated immediately so the appointee can review issues before voting. Administrator Caker said he would follow up with McKeefrey.
The appointment fills the vacancy created by Trustee Schneider; the seat runs through April 2025, when voters will elect the trustee for the next term.
