The Select Board finalized the wording for an advertisement seeking citizen applicants to serve on a town-manager search advisory committee. Board members debated committee size and agreed on five citizen members (an odd number to avoid ties). Applicants may be residents, people who live or run businesses in Northfield, or representatives of local institutions.
Under the agreed process, three bodies will interview finalists: staff, a citizen advisory committee, and the Select Board. The citizen advisory committee will meet with the 3–4 final candidates and submit recommendations; the Select Board retains hiring authority and will make the final selection. The board discussed including department heads in the staff interviews and working with VLCT and Bill Fraser on the vetting process.
The advertisement will direct written expressions of interest to the town manager’s office at the town office address. Board members discussed application timing and agreed to set a March early-March deadline (March 5 or 6 as the closing date was finalized in follow-up) and to appoint committee members at the board’s March 10 meeting.
Board members emphasized that the citizen committee is advisory and that staff and the Select Board will each also interview finalists and submit recommendations for the final hiring decision.
