Residents and council seek interim options as Hopkins Park construction shifts summer-camp plans

Parks & Recreation Director Stephanie Hall said Hopkins Park has previously received CDBG funds for field trips and that staff are working to vet applicants and apply the same approach to Hopkins Park this year. “We plan on getting ready to have them fill out the forms to see who qualifies this year,” Hall said, adding the department will explore transportation options and potentially house campers at the Civic Center while construction proceeds.
Councilmembers asked staff to analyze where children live, how many are affected, whether CDBG or other funds can support transportation, and whether the Civic Center can temporarily host programs. The mayor suggested the matter be reviewed at an upcoming workshop; staff and council agreed to gather numbers and return with options.
