The Town of Oakland commission on March 25 said it will move forward with a multi‑year plan to address unpaved roads after a consultant completes a neighborhood‑by‑neighborhood assessment.
"We were fortunate in finding some funding, and that funding will be utilized…in the Oakland Shores neighborhood," Mike Parker, a town public‑works staff member, told the commission as he paraphrased a memo summarizing the study's scope. Parker said the consultant will dictate whether streets receive full asphalt paving or millings and that the project will roll out across multiple budget years.
The commission said the paving of Henshin — completed this month with conventional hot‑mix paving — went well and was prioritized because of heavy traffic and use as a conduit to a local charter school. "Everybody that we've spoke[n] with has nothing but good news," Parker said about the Henshin work.
Residents asked how streets will be chosen. Tim Dean of 100 North Walker asked whether a final map already exists and how neighborhoods can join a priority list.
