The deputy mayor said the two commissions combined total 26 seats and that vacancies and public confusion about roles prompted reconsideration.
Committee members did not take formal action but asked the administration to consult both commissions and to supply supporting data on vacancies and applicant quality. One member noted the Novak organizational assessment previously recommended consolidation in some instances, but committee members said they wanted concrete evidence and consultation before pursuing structural change.
Members also received an update that staff and council attorneys have begun a paragraph‑by‑paragraph review of Title II as part of a broader governance overhaul; that work will continue and a draft should be available for committee review at an upcoming meeting.
