Council approves $500,000+ sidewalk committee recommendations including $300,000 repaving coordination pool

The Bloomington Common Council unanimously approved the sidewalk committee’s funding recommendations after a presentation by Councilmember Rosenberger.
The committee used the city’s Safe Streets for All priority network to prioritize investments. Specific recommendations included partial funding for sidewalk construction on North Jefferson Street, design funding for a crosswalk on North Union Street (between 7th and 10th), a proposed crosswalk at Law Lane and a $300,000 allocation for repaving-coordination projects that would allow the city to install crosswalks, bump-outs and other pedestrian improvements when streets are resurfaced.
Councilmember Rosenberger said the repaving-coordination funding aims to produce the biggest safety improvements for the dollar by pairing sidewalk and crosswalk work with scheduled repaving operations. After a motion to approve the report and the recommendations, a roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval, 9–0.
Council asked staff to report back on which repaving-coordination projects ultimately used the funds so council can track results.
