The Breckenridge City Commission approved a 15-year lease with Verifiber to allow the company to install a small head-end facility and bring fiber-to-the-home service to Breckenridge.
David Miller, identified as the Economic Development director, said the agreement gives Verifiber roughly 100 square feet of space in a city facility to house the fiber trunk and cabinets. "This will be Breckenridge's first fiber to the home," Miller said, and he described the space as essentially a utility closet rather than standard office area.
Commissioners asked about the 15-year term and whether the city could rescind or renegotiate if needs change. Miller said the practical cost to exit early would be modest for a utility closet and that Verifiber will handle most build-out work, including hand holes in the parking lot and interior renovations; the city would not bear significant upfront costs.
A motion to approve the EDC recommendation for the lease passed by voice vote. Staff said the project is expected to provide the city with fiber connectivity infrastructure and still requires coordination on storage and office reorganization related to the space used by Verifiber.
