Charlotte County commissioners spent the Aug. 19 budget workshop examining revised Municipal Service Benefit Unit (MSBU) rate and work‑program scenarios for several neighborhoods, with staff proposing options meant to reduce near‑term assessments while holding maximum rates for future use.
Rick Arthur, Fiscal Services, told the board the scenarios were developed by comparing fiscal year 2024 actuals, FY25 service requests and planned FY26 work programs then trimming or removing nonessential line items. "These are the revised scenarios that we're bringing back to you," he said, adding staff tried to lower reserves toward a 10% target.
For Cook and Brown, staff offered three choices: keep the tentative maximum rate set in July, adopt a revised work program that cuts roughly $8 per unit, or adopt the higher maximum but assess a lower amount this year. Commissioners and…
