Residents ask Sandusky commission for public information on proposed data center and raise local environmental concerns

During the meeting's public-comment portion several residents requested more information and public outreach about local projects and impacts.

Dr. Cooper asked when the new bike path would be completed and raised an environmental concern about bright sports-field lights, suggesting they be dimmed or turned off at 11 p.m. when not needed "because it affects birds and migration." She also said she had heard that an upcoming data center at Hayes and Perkins could cause electric bills to "go up double, triple."

Tim Schwanger followed and recommended that the city coordinate with Erie County to provide a public information session explaining likely electricity and water impacts of a data center, citing examples from other communities. Schwanger urged the commission to provide residents with information on what could be done about potential increases in water rates and electricity demand.

Tom LaMarca and other residents offered farewell thanks and praise to departing staff and commissioners. The commission acknowledged the comments; no technical responses or commitments by the city to hold a joint public session were recorded on the meeting record, though staff said they would bring additional information or legislation forward when relevant.
