Anderson City Council approved on first reading an infill annexation and rezoning to NC (Neighborhood Commercial) for two lots on West Market Street to allow the owner of an existing barbershop to expand and construct a barber school.
Planning staff said the annexation closes a gap between existing NC zoning and adjacent single-family residential, that the applicant provided a floor plan for the proposed barber school, and that the development would be subject to the city’s landscape code, sign ordinance and other applicable standards. Staff and the planning commission recommended approval.
Council members commented in support of the small-business expansion, noting the applicant’s track record with the current barbershop and the opportunity to grow a local business. A motion to approve was made (first by Dr. Thompson, second by Miss Stewart) and the rezoning passed unanimously on first reading.
