St. George council approves budget amendments for golf repairs, park turf and two transit buses

The St. George City Council on a unanimous vote approved amendments to its fiscal year 2024–25 budget to fund repairs and replacements across parks, golf operations and transit services.
Staff presented four separate amendments. The council approved $38,500 to replace worn netting at Southgate Golf Club, $150,000 to replace a roadway to a maintenance facility and an equipment storage shed at the Saint George Golf Course, $293,807 (to come from the RAP/wrap tax fund) to replace Thunder Junction’s worn carpet with artificial turf, and $1,300,000 to replace two transit buses. According to staff, roughly 80% of the bus cost will be covered by Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grants, with the city providing a 20% local match from the transit sales tax fund.
During the public hearing, staff said the golf courses have seen a strong season — revenue is more than 10% higher than the previous year — and these amendments respond to equipment and infrastructure that staff described as past their useful life. Staff answered council questions about schedule and durability: the Thunder Junction replacement is expected to begin in May and take roughly three weeks.
There were no public speakers on the budget amendment. Mayor Pro Tem Hughes moved to adopt Resolution 2025-008 R amending the FY24–25 budget; the motion was seconded by Council member Natalie and passed by roll call vote, recorded unanimously.
