City staff presents draft street, sidewalk and utility design standards to council

City staff presented draft design standards for streets, sidewalks and utility placement intended to guide new subdivision construction and major utility projects. "The first page is kind of the road cross section that was proposed for new subdivisions," staff said, and added the standards would not apply to older existing roads but would set expectations for any new subdivisions seeking approval.
The draft package also included suggested locations for water and sewer lines so future works can be standardized rather than placed 'where they ended up' historically, staff said. The documents are currently draft; staff asked the council to review them, share comments and consider referring the materials to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a formal review. A council member (Tony) agreed to present the standards to Planning and Zoning at its next meeting on the 18th.
Staff said standards could also be applied when older streets undergo replacement projects so utilities and street sections move progressively toward the new standard. The council did not adopt the standards at this meeting; staff offered to attend a Planning and Zoning meeting to present and to distribute PDFs to council and commissioners for review.
No formal changes to local code or immediate capital expenditures were approved at the meeting; staff requested feedback and next steps toward formal adoption.
