Burbank — The City Council on Feb. 10 adopted a resolution designating the dwelling at 1515 East Alameda Avenue as a local historic resource under Burbank Municipal Code criteria.
Assistant planner Eduardo Rendon summarized the staff report finding that the one‑story Craftsman residence (constructed 1923) retains character‑defining features — cross‑gabled roof with pronounced eaves, river‑rock piers, multi‑light wood windows and original wood siding — and that minor, consistent alterations had not compromised integrity. Staff recommended the council find the property eligible under Criterion C and adopt a CEQA exemption for the designation.
Applicant remarks: The property owner said they had worked to restore the house after years of deferred maintenance, described the structure as having "good bones," and asked the city to help preserve it for the community.
What designation means: Amanda Landry, principal planner, explained that a covenant is recorded on title for designated properties. Major exterior work visible from the public right of way will require a permit to alter historic resource and review against the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation; ordinary maintenance and interior work do not require special review and typical building permits remain the path for repairs.
Vote and outcome: Council moved, seconded, and adopted the resolution by unanimous roll call. The designation is effective upon recording; staff said they will work with the owner on appropriate rehabilitation measures and guidance.
