Lubbock ISD trustees adopt 2025-26 calendar, approve Bluebonnet for K-5 math

Beth Berridge, presenting the academic calendar, said the district must meet state requirements of 187 staff days and a minimum of 75,600 instructional minutes. She reported that the public survey soliciting calendar feedback ran from Dec. 13 to Jan. 6 and drew 1,371 responses; Option A received the highest share at 44.6% and was recommended by the district's committee because it builds in a small buffer of instructional time and includes 18 professional development days and 22 staff/student holidays. Berridge noted the calendar includes a goals day on Oct. 31 followed by a staff and student holiday.
Trustees moved to approve the 2025-26 calendar as presented; the transcript records the motion as carried (tally recorded in the public record as "Motion carries 7 2 0").
On instructional materials, administrators recommended adopting Bluebonnet for kindergarten through fifth-grade math. District staff said Bluebonnet is the state-recommended curriculum and represents a refined version of the district's current Eureka materials; the program was piloted and used this year. Misty (presenter) said the recommended adoption yields additional funding in the district's Instructional Materials Allotment (IMA) "-- an additional $40 and a tag on of an additional $20 per student," and stressed the decision was made for instructional effectiveness rather than the funding.
The board moved and approved the Bluebonnet adoption; the transcript records the motion as carried "7 to 0." The district posted that the Public Information Act calendar (10 designated holidays) was also approved and available on the district website.
