Laguna Beach Unified honors employees and students at Jan. 22 recognition event

The Laguna Beach Unified School District board opened its Jan. 22 meeting with a recognition event honoring classified employees, certificated leaders and students across district programs. Superintendent Dr. Glass and school leaders presented awards in multiple categories and described honorees' contributions.
Classified winners included Sal Tamayo (campus supervisor, LVHS), Leanne Hartley (data support specialist), Chrissy Landgraf (student accounts clerk and activities account specialist), and Thesa Suziak (special education instructional assistant and CSEA chapter president), who was named classified employee of the year. Randi Beckley of Thurston Middle School was recognized as Teacher of the Year for her classroom leadership and district-level program work.
Student recognitions spanned elementary and secondary programs. El Morro and district arts winners were announced for the Boo Blast T-shirt design, Coast Film and Music Festival exhibitions, Holiday Art Palettes and the Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational. Thurston and Laguna Beach High School students were cited for Tech Trek nominations, MathCounts placements and multiple athletic honors, including college scholarships announced for several student-athletes.
Board President Morgan paused for a 10-minute break between elementary and secondary recognitions to accommodate families; the event included multiple photo opportunities and remarks from principals and staff thanking honorees for their service. No formal actions were taken during the recognition segment; the board moved into regular business after the presentations.
