Associate superintendent presented a draft memorandum of understanding and blanket easement that would allow the city of Southern Park to build baseball/soccer fields partially on Santa Teresa Middle School property while guaranteeing district priority access; the MOU needs a survey and further legal review before board action.
Gadsden Independent School District staff briefed trustees on a proposed partnership with the city of Southern Park to expand a sports complex that would use portions of Santa Teresa Middle School property.
Associate Superintendent Cadena said the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) and a blanket easement have been reviewed by district legal counsel and shared with the city. Under the draft, the district would retain priority access for campus use and share scheduling with the city for non-district uses.
Cadena noted the documents are preliminary: the easement will require a formal survey showing property boundaries and a finalized draft before the board takes action. "I do believe...that we will basically use it as the campus's baseball field, and part of one of the baseball fields," Cadena said. The board asked clarifying questions and staff said the MOU and easement will return for action after the survey and any legal updates.
No formal vote occurred; trustees received the presentation and were offered opportunity to ask questions of staff and the city manager if present online.
