Gadsden High School's NJROTC unit presented program achievements; the board also recognized 34 National Board Certified Teachers and said 81 district teachers are currently pursuing certification with professional learning support.
Gadsden Independent School District trustees paused regular business on Feb. 10 to recognize student and teacher accomplishments.
Gadsden High School's NJROTC leaders described the unit's decade-long record of competition and service, noting ten consecutive distinguished unit awards and extensive community volunteer work. "The unit has proven itself to be something recognizable and outstanding in our community," cadet representative Jesus Del Real said.
District staff then recognized 34 current National Board Certified Teachers and highlighted district supports that have expanded certification rates. District presenters said the national board process is rigorous and that local professional learning facilitators (PLFs) and Title II funding helped raise passing rates from roughly 15% (candidates working alone) to about 45% when candidates had PLF support. The district reported 81 candidates currently pursuing certification.
Superintendent and board members congratulated individual teachers who received plaques and called out the district's growth in National Board-certified staff as a benefit for classroom instruction and student outcomes. "This is a major accomplishment and we're very proud of you," a district official said during recognition.
The recognitions were followed by photos and brief remarks from board members celebrating the programs' student and staff achievements.
