Clear Creek ISD highlights $5.2 million prevention grant and Red Ribbon Week activities

At the Oct. 27 meeting, Clear Creek ISD board members heard an update from the Bay Area Alliance and Clear Creek Community Coalition about district substance-use prevention programs and a multi-year grant from Texas Health and Human Services.
Leslie Tracy, introduced as director of the Clear Creek alliance program, told trustees the coalition began with a SAMHSA drug‑free communities grant in 2003 and that in 2024 HHSC renewed and expanded funding in a grant of "a little over $5,200,000 over 5 years". The grant expands community-coalition partnerships and funds three youth-prevention programs targeted to different student populations. Tracy summarized program components including community coalition work, a student-leadership SALSA program, medication take‑back events (collecting about 38,000 pounds over 10 years) and school nurse partnerships that purchased a vision‑screening tool for district health services.
The presentation also tied the grant work to the board’s Red Ribbon Week proclamation (Oct. 22–31) and noted district distribution of red ribbons, wristbands and resource tables for campuses. Board members thanked the alliance staff; Trustee Sanchez and Dr. Engel noted the value of wraparound services and parent engagement in prevention programs.
District leaders characterized the prevention initiative as evidence-based and tied to health, wellness and resiliency-building across CCISD schools.
