On public works, council approved a bid to repair a dip on 3rd Street (FM 107 intersection) and authorized expenditure not to exceed $9,000 from the FY25/26 budget to complete the work. Staff said the chosen quote of $8,478.50 reflects a lower‑cost crew willing to schedule the work in a longer timeline.
Council also approved an ordinance (O‑9‑25‑2025‑1) allowing a CPI‑based increase of about 2.05% in the Waste Connections/Longstar Inc. solid waste collection and disposal rate, effective Dec. 1; the city retains its administrative fee on the contract.
Council addressed routine business, including reappointments to the Bruceville‑Eddy Economic Development Corporation (with one vacancy after James Talbert declined reappointment for health reasons), approval of consent agenda items (minutes, August 2025 financials, donation acceptance and surplus auction), and nomination of Ben Perry and Jim Patton to the McLennan Central Appraisal District Board for seats expiring Dec. 31, 2025.
Staff reports noted progress on the Old Bethany water main (about 900 feet installed), sewer coordination with Union Pacific and BlackRock Construction, a forthcoming GIS public map viewer on the city website, and that the Ascent Bridal Center expects an October opening. The city has posted the city administrator position and other vacancies.
All recorded votes on these items were approved by voice vote; the solid waste increase and the road repair were approved unanimously, and the executive‑session personnel motions passed unanimously according to the transcript.
