Boone County’s Committee of the Whole for Finance on Jan. 15 approved a change order for the Logan Avenue roofing work to correct an unforeseen tie-in condition and preserve roof drainage. The change order was presented by Randy Darnell of CCS and explained in technical detail by Clayton, the project architect, who said the addition’s roof deck was set about two inches lower than intended.
"When Scandroli began to remove the parapet...they found the roof deck for the addition was set about 2 inches lower than needed," Clayton said, summarizing field findings and the recommended remedy: additional demolition and two inches of rigid insulation to bring the two roof planes into alignment.
Randy Darnell described the change as critical to winterization and the accelerated schedule. Committee members questioned why the discrepancy was not identified during design; Clayton said original construction drawings for the old grocery-store building were not available, and that field measurements and a shared Revit model had been within roughly an inch but the steel was ultimately set lower than anticipated. He called the condition unforeseen and said destructive testing would have been more invasive.
The committee moved and approved the change order (agenda amount stated: $14,640.73) by roll call. Chair Carl Johnson directed staff to proceed with the correction so the roofing tie‑in would drain as intended.
The matter will proceed to vendor execution and construction crews on site; no subsequent amendments were recorded during the meeting.
