Sheriff's representative reports January statistics; city to host senior fraud-prevention event

A sheriff’s department representative (Speaker 4) presented January 2025 public-safety statistics to the Stanton City Council, reporting 1,853 calls for service (about 59 per day), 725 observed violations of law and 74 arrests for the month (including 33 felony bookings, 25 misdemeanor bookings, 16 warrant bookings and 3 DUI bookings). The representative listed incident counts including robberies, violent assaults, burglaries, thefts and vehicle thefts; reported response times for January (priority 1 — 4 minutes, 37 seconds; priority 2 — 19 minutes, 24 seconds; priority 3 — 31 minutes, 19 seconds); and summarized open and closed investigations and special enforcement-team contacts related to homelessness, probation/parole, prostitution and human-trafficking victim contacts.

Earlier in the meeting, city staff announced a senior fraud-prevention event to be held at the banquet hall from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., in partnership with Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee. Staff (Speaker 2) said the program will include presentations from the sheriff’s department, the U.S. Postal Service and the Office on Aging and about 15 resource vendors to provide information and assistance for seniors.

During closing remarks the presiding official and council members praised increased patrol visibility in neighborhoods and thanked the sheriff’s department for its work. No public-safety policy actions or budget votes were taken at the meeting; the report was informational and staff indicated availability to answer follow-up questions.
