The Stanton police chief updated the City Council on February public-safety activity, reporting 1,622 calls for service (about 57 per day) and a total of 69 arrests during the month.
The chief said deputies observed 556 violations of law, completed more than 400 patrol checks and made 69 arrests: 30 felony bookings, 24 misdemeanor bookings, 15 warrant bookings and 5 DUI bookings. The motor deputy issued 162 traffic citations in February.
The chief reported specific crime counts for the month: "2 rapes, 5 robberies where suspects used several different types of weapons, 36 violent assaults, 4 burglaries, 38 thefts, and 6 stolen vehicles," and provided priority response times (priority one average 4 minutes 9 seconds; priority two 21 minutes 22 seconds; priority three 37 minutes 8 seconds).
Investigators had 58 cases open and closed 38 cases that month. The chief also said the special enforcement team made more than 200 contacts with homeless individuals, conducted parolee and probation contacts, and made arrests and referrals tied to sex-work enforcement and other targeted activities.
Council members voiced concern about an increase in transient individuals in the community and asked for additional attention to quality-of-life impacts; the chief described a recent neighborhood response to a transient who was drinking and said officers responded quickly.
