The Colorado Ag Commission confirmed two applicants to serve as Bureau of Animal Protection agents during its Sept. 11 meeting.
Dr. Courtney presented the candidates: Ivona Nelson of the Summit County Animal Control and Shelter, who has over 100 hours of training in animal-cruelty investigations and law enforcement and has been an animal control agent since 2022; and Jacqueline Mowerman of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, who the presenter said has about 150 hours of relevant training and served as an animal law enforcement officer since 2023.
Commissioner Colleen Peppler moved to confirm the applicants as recommended by staff; Nick Tran seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Staff reminded commissioners that the next renewal period occurs in December and that the newly commissioned agents will have a short initial commissioning timeframe before the regular renewal process.
