Springettsbury staff outline plan to allow alcohol at limited park events; supervisors ask for a written policy

Springettsbury Township recreation staff presented a proposal to permit alcohol sales at selected township‑sponsored events in Springettsbury Park, saying a partner‑vendor approach would limit township liability while expanding event offerings.

"What we're recommending is a responsible approach, not prohibition," presenter Brandy said, describing vendor partnership, wristbanding, insurance requirements and coordination with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB). She noted other local events use similar models and said the township would not permit alcohol at every family‑oriented program.

Supervisors welcomed a discussion but raised concerns about event types, liability and capacity. One supervisor said the township’s family‑friendly events are an asset and should not automatically include alcohol; another asked for a written plan before any ordinance changes. The police chief said law‑enforcement had discussed the idea and believed, with proper safeguards and planning, it could be managed safely though it would increase planning and operational effort.

The board took no formal action but directed staff to prepare a detailed policy and any required special‑events or ordinance amendments for future consideration.
