Friends of Camp Security told the Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisors it was awarded a National Park Service American Battlefield Protection grant of $149,501.59 to fund archaeological survey, excavation seasons and post‑field analysis to map the footprint of the Camp Security stockade.
John Cromer, speaking for the group, outlined the project timeline: pre‑survey compliance work (approximately September–December), an RFP to hire a cultural‑resource contractor, and two 8‑week excavation seasons in 2025 and 2026 with subsequent artifact curation, reporting and mapping. The work is planned for the Weese Lower Field and will produce GPS coordinates and a complete stockade footprint map to inform future planning of the property.
The grant is non‑matching, Cromer said, and will fund excavation, analysis and reporting. Friends of Camp Security requested a written permission letter from the township manager to allow the work to proceed; the board voted to authorize the manager to submit that letter to the National Park Service.
Cromer also reported outreach to the British Embassy, which expressed interest in visiting the site; the group suggested coordinating any visits or ceremonies with other bicentennial or commemorative activities.
