Springettsbury Supervisors approve Resolution 2024-34 to back multi-municipal fire apparatus purchase, 4–1

Springettsbury Township’s Board of Supervisors voted 4–1 to adopt Resolution 2024-34, signaling the township’s formal support for its share of a multi-municipal purchase of fire apparatus coordinated through the Yaufra commission.

The resolution, discussed under new business, covers a collective order of two Pierce Enforcer pumpers, a Pierce Enforcer heavy-duty rescue and a platform apparatus. The total equipment cost presented in the meeting was $5,655,590.52; each member municipality must pass a supporting resolution and commit to its allocated share.

The board’s discussion focused on budgetary impact and financing. Township staff said equipment is ordered now but will not be delivered for about 24 to 30 months, giving the township time to budget. The township manager outlined two financing options: pay Springettsbury’s portion in a lump sum when due or borrow to finance the share. Chief Tom (identified during the budget discussion) said prior capital planning included an estimated finance plan but the final figures before the board were higher than prior estimates.

Supervisor 4 moved adoption of Resolution 2024-34; following discussion about the capital-improvements plan and budget timing, the board voted with four members in favor and one opposed. The chair declared the motion carried 4 to 1.

The board’s action was procedural approval of the resolution and commitment to the purchase; any specific financing plan or payment schedule will be determined later as budget and cash-flow needs are finalized. Other member municipalities have already placed the resolution on their agendas, and the Yaufra commission will consider the plan at a subsequent meeting.

The board adjourned after completing its agenda.
