Parks board approves up to $2,500 match for Crimson Dawn trail realignment

The board voted to contribute up to $2,500 from the trails budget to match funds raised by the Crimson Dawn Association for a proposed realignment of the eroded trail from the parking lot up to Crimson Dawn cemetery. Parks Director Michael Brown described the proposal as a minor realignment that lengthens the trail to reduce erosion, allows erosion control features and reduces grade; the estimate for the work is about $5,000.
Brown said Central Wyoming Trail Alliance would perform much of the construction with small equipment and that the parks trail budget appears to have adequate funding to cover up to $2,500. Trustees moved, seconded and voted to approve the match so the association can proceed with fundraising and construction planning; Brown said work would likely begin in April or May, weather permitting.
Trustees noted the new trail would not be ADA-compliant given terrain constraints but would improve safety and summer access for event attendees.
