Prior Lake‑Savage board hears early gains from new Glendale paraeducator

Superintendent Doctor Thomas introduced a presentation from Glendale Elementary staff about a newly established academic paraeducator role meant to support classroom instruction and close achievement gaps.

Principal Jennifer Molitor and staff explained the role’s three primary functions: in‑class partnership to provide real‑time instructional support, relationship building with students and families, and teacher collaboration to align strategies and reflect on lessons. Assistant/differentiation staff described how the para works alongside teachers during instruction and provides targeted one‑to‑one support and tutoring sessions outside the regular school day.

"From the first day Charlene walked in our door, the enthusiasm, the excitement, the wanting to help our students just exuberated out of her. She is amazing," a Glendale presenter said, describing the para’s outreach to families and classroom impact.

Administrators said the position was implemented earlier at Glendale this year, and that families are already bringing students in for morning tutoring. Staff said the role is intended to accelerate math growth, increase student confidence and advance equity by providing differentiated supports during grade‑level lessons.

Board members thanked the presenters and noted the role’s alignment with broader district priorities on student success and family engagement. There were no formal motions attached to the presentation; the board moved on to subsequent agenda items after a brief question period.

The board listed the Glendale update as part of 'Laker pride' during its Feb. 9 business meeting and encouraged administrators to continue reporting early outcomes ahead of longer‑term budget decisions later this year.
