The Board of Education for GreeleySchool District No. 6 on Feb. 9 honored Nicole Peterson, principal of Brentwood Middle School, after her selection by the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) as the 2026 middle-level principal of the year.
Dr. Pilch, district superintendent, said the honor came from Casey of peers and former winners who reviewed nominees and recognized Peterson "as the middle school principal of the year at the middle level" and praised her for creating "a positive and welcoming and nurturing environment" and knowing "every single student by name." The board presentation noted Brentwood's repeated recognition as a School to Watch and the Colorado Department of Education Center of Excellence awards.
Nicole Peterson, the principal, told the board she was "super humbled by this recognition and, incredibly honored," and framed the award as a testament to the staff and students at Brentwood. According to the district presentation, Peterson has led Brentwood since 2013 and previously served as an assistant principal at Greeley Central.
The board and superintendent said Peterson’s approach—emphasizing relationships, consistent student celebration and broad extracurricular participation—contributed to sustained academic performance at Brentwood. The recognition will be followed by a statewide gathering in April where Peterson will be honored with other state winners.
The board presented a plaque and paused the public business to allow district leaders and trustees to acknowledge the prize and take photos.
