Gelson told the commission the organizers will erect a temporary 4‑foot mesh fence around the launch area, will keep launchers away from pedestrians and nearby residences, and have insurance coverage they stated as $10,000,000 from their council and $4,000,000 from NAR. He described a multi‑year history (sixth year at Waveny, roughly 15 years overall) and noted no injuries at their event in prior years when certified equipment is used.
Commissioners asked about parking, spectator areas and sightlines; Gelson pointed to the Western parking lot and adjacent lots and said viewers would gather down near the golf driving range area. After questions, a commissioner moved to approve the request; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The commission did not attach conditions on timing beyond the event description. Parks staff will coordinate logistics and site access with organizers and monitor compliance with agreed safety measures.
