Summary
Planning board members reported that the water committee discussed options to acquire the West Swanzey Water Company and install a roughly 400,000‑gallon tank on Forest Avenue with pipelines to Route 10/West Street; the committee will continue engineering and public outreach.
At the Feb. 12 meeting members reported on a water-committee meeting that explored options for the West Swanzey Water Company. Engineers presented preliminary options including running a new pipe from Keene or purchasing the private water company’s infrastructure, and locating a prestressed concrete storage tank on Forest Avenue to provide additional storage and pressure for expanded service.
Committee members said a preliminary design under consideration is a roughly 400,000‑gallon tank (about 27–30 feet high and roughly 50 feet in diameter) and that the preferred tank site would allow a gravity-fed pressure increase to parts of town. The committee discussed tying the new storage to existing wells and running a feeder main toward Route 10/West Street to connect customers; members emphasized further engineering and a public‑meeting process is required to determine costs and timing.
Board members said they will meet again with the engineering team and the water-committee will organize additional public meetings; town officials will analyze potential purchase costs if the town elects to take over the private system.
