BEXLEY, Ohio — On Feb. 10 the Bexley City Council heard the first reading of Resolution 2-26, which would authorize the finance director to disperse funds for a Bexley water‑bill relief program designed to help residents with unexpected or excessive bills.
Council and staff explained that budget appropriations for the program were made previously, but additional council authorization is required to make direct payouts from the program. Staff said the online application and an administrative form are ready, but the program is not yet live pending the requested authorization.
During public comment, Constance Lewis, a resident, described a neighbor whose unpaid water bill reached nearly $2,000 after periods of nonpayment and asked whether the program would cover residents who had not paid bills for extended periods. Council staff responded that they would follow up with her and provide more detail; the meeting record shows the program was not active at the time of her comment.
