Board discusses Middle Fork collections and cautious winter spending as funds may lag

Board members reviewed the condition and finances of the Middle Fork drainage account at the Feb. 10 meeting and debated whether to spend available funds this winter to remove log jams and fallen trees.

Speaker 4 reported conversations with a resident (Dave) and noted past spending of about $4,000–$6,000 on log-jam work. Speaker 6 described the fund as projected to collect roughly $48,000 annually but cautioned that collections are phased ("you only get about half of it in the spring"), and some speakers warned that excessive winter spending could deplete the fund and require the general fund to cover interim costs.

Members debated the tradeoff between acting now to prevent future clogging and preserving fund balances until collections arrive. No formal motion to authorize winter spending was recorded; the board agreed to monitor conditions and to avoid unplanned overdrawing of the drainage account.

Next steps: staff will track Middle Fork balance and proposed maintenance work; any request to spend monies beyond current collections will be brought to the board for formal approval.
