Trustees approve July 4 beer‑garden liquor permit with wristband limits and LCSO security

The Wellington Board of Trustees unanimously approved a special‑event liquor permit on June 13 for the American Legion’s July 4 beer garden in Centennial Park.

Patty Garcia, the town administrator, presented the application and said event hours will run 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with setup beginning as early as 6 a.m. Applicant Dennis Hipsag said the event will follow prior years’ operation with vendors, live music and three local breweries participating. Hipsag described a five‑tag wristband system to limit each patron to five drinks; servers will tear tags in front of patrons to prevent multiple purchases being given to a single person.

Security and access: The applicant said three Larimer County Sheriff’s Office officers will staff security in addition to American Legion volunteers; entrances and exits will be monitored to discourage attendees from taking alcoholic beverages outside the fenced area. Trustees raised ADA parking concerns; staff said they will work with the applicant to reserve additional accessible spaces near Old Town Hall if needed, though ADA parking is not a formal liquor‑license requirement.

Vote and next steps: Trustee McDonald moved to approve the permit; Trustee Mason seconded and the roll call vote was unanimous. Staff will coordinate final event operations, security confirmations with LCSO and ADA parking accommodations ahead of the event.
