Commission votes to recommend Alex Posada for future park and facility naming

The Recreation & Parks Commission voted to recommend that city council add Alexander (Alex) Posada to the city's eligibility resource list for future park, trail and facility naming.

Staff read a resolution that described the city's naming criteria and said Alex Posada "has demonstrated sustained leadership and service benefiting the Santa Maria community." The recommendation did not request naming a specific facility at this time; staff said council alone has authority to name an entire park while the commission can name park components internally.

A commissioner moved to place Alexander (Alex) Posada on the eligibility list and the motion was seconded. The commission approved the recommendation by roll-call vote recorded as Commissioner Ramirez: Yes; Commissioner Lopez: Yes; Chair Carey: Yes.

Staff told the commission that the current eligibility list will have one name removed (Jim Glines) and that adding Posada will leave the list positioned for upcoming naming opportunities. The matter will go to city council for final action; staff described no fiscal impact associated with adding a name to the eligibility list.
