Town says state approved about $1.5 million for septic-to-sewer connections

Town public-works staff told the commission that the Town of Oakland was approved in the recent state budget for approximately $1.5 million toward a septic-to-sewer project that will fund infrastructure work and enable homeowner connections to central sewer.
Public-works staff said the town leveraged local investments (including about $1.1 million the town is spending on construction of Lift Station 7 and roughly $600,000 of developer-provided sewer infrastructure) to reduce the state's share of the total project cost. The staff presentation said that leveraging helped the project qualify for a state appropriation and that the state contract is expected in the fall; once the contract is executed residents in affected areas will be able to connect to central sewer.
Staff estimated the state-funded program would cover infrastructure enabling about 45 potential connections in identified areas (including Westwick, Bridal Avenue, Daniels and sections leading up to the trail from Briley). Staff said they will make project maps available in the manager’s office and will reach out to affected homeowners as planning and construction proceed.
What happens next: Staff expects the state contract to be finalized later in 2025, after which design and construction scheduling will proceed. Homeowners will receive additional details on the project area and timing once the contractual steps are complete.
