Florence USD spotlights two elementary schools and honors staff and students

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Florence Unified School District featured Florence Elementary School and Anthem Elementary School, showcased student leadership activity and recognized several staff members for service to students.
Becky Ramirez, principal of Florence Elementary School, introduced Florence’s programs and staff, singled out academic interventionist Michelle Fryhofer, and asked the audience to acknowledge staff contributions. Ramirez introduced student council president Ryan Ballard, who led the school pledge and described the school’s theme and programs. Ballard said, "I am a proud Florence Gopher. Each day, I choose to be safe. I show others I'm kind, and I always stay responsible." Ramirez described the school’s participation in Give Thanks, a nonprofit digital program focused on gratitude and social-emotional learning, and noted the school’s PBIS rewards system and quarterly incentives.
Anthem Elementary principal Leah Alisa presented items from her school and introduced Julia Wright, the student council sponsor, who read prepared remarks from the Stuco president (who was home sick). Wright described student council activities including club governance, spirit events, fundraising (including "Boo grams," Valentine grams and a holiday shop) and the school’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraising, which she said had raised $6,313 so far for the American Heart Association.
The meeting included staff recognitions: Florence Elementary named classified employee Ms. Lehi Hall and certified employee Ms. Kelly Johnston as employees of the month; Anthem acknowledged paraprofessional Adrianna Davila as classified employee of the month and Carrie Wheeler as certified employee of the month for work in special education. The board also called forward students of the month from high schools, middle schools, elementary schools and preschools across the district and organized group photos.
Principals provided program details and thanked staff and volunteers. The meeting materials referenced PBIS point totals for Florence Elementary (reported in the meeting as 12,687 points for the first semester and "11 32" points for third quarter), and principals encouraged family and community support for school events and programs.
Next procedural items were routine board business and votes; no formal policy changes arose from the presentations. The board adjourned after completing the evening’s agenda.
