The Weston village board voted to move forward on staff compensation for 2025, approving a motion to adopt a 3% across‑the‑board wage increase and a $15,000 market/merit reserve contingent on the health‑insurance increase not exceeding 11%.
During the budget discussion staff and trustees explored health‑insurance projections and plan‑design options. Staff (Speaker 3) gave figures for current and projected insurance costs: an estimated 2024 total of $557,003.96 for the village and a 2025 budgeted amount reported as $711,005.56. Board members noted the insurance coop has discussed a range (12–15%) and that previous communications had at times shown larger figures; Speaker 9 said the coop had asked for more time to seek mitigations and requested until Oct. 21 for an update.
Speaker 5 moved the compensation package and read the motion aloud: "The compensation increases at 3% and the market merit reserve at $15,000 contingent on the health plan benefit increase not exceeding 11%." Speaker 2 seconded the motion. After discussion about plan redesign, coop membership and how an above‑11% increase would be handled, the board voted by voice; the chair announced the result as four in favor and two opposed and the motion carried.
Board members asked staff to continue exploring plan‑design alternatives (different deductible structures and HSA options) and to return updated numbers at the October meetings so the board could finalize compensation and benefit decisions before the budget adoption deadline.
