Council adopts new stormwater ordinance, approves criteria for public works site selection

The Verona Common Council on Feb. 9 approved ordinance 26‑1083, which repeals and replaces Title 15, Chapter 2 of the city code related to construction site erosion and stormwater runoff control, and approved the key criteria for the site selection matrix to rank potential locations for a new public works facility.
Alder Tucker Long introduced the ordinance, describing it as a major restructuring to align Verona code with recent changes in Dane County's ordinance while retaining Verona’s unique requirements, such as managing proposed flow rates to pre‑settlement conditions.
On the site selection process, alderpersons were previously asked to rank select criteria at the Jan. 26 meeting; staff presented consolidated results in the council packet. The council approved using those criteria to produce final site rankings for potential public works locations.
Public comment earlier in the meeting included opposition to placing a public works facility on Shady Bend Road; Dale Bieske told the council that compatibility with adjacent residential uses "should be number 1 on your priority list" and warned a facility in a residential area is likely to remain permanent.
Both the ordinance and the site selection criteria were approved by voice vote.
