Council approves two special-use resolutions to allow public-facility uses on annexed industrial parcels

The Bradenton City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 11 to approve Resolutions 26-02 and 26-03, which allow public-facility uses on two parcels the city annexed last year.
Greg DeLong, assistant director of planning and community development, told council the smaller parcel (about 4.08 acres south of Tropicana) and the larger, roughly 28-acre parcel meet the industrial zoning and comprehensive-plan criteria for a special use as a public facility. The larger parcel was discussed as the future permanent location for Public Works as part of the city-park project at Lee Kum Park; DeLong said the city is finalizing a master site plan and anticipates staged construction beginning in 2026 with a multi-year build-out.
DeLong noted the Planning Commission reviewed both cases on Jan. 21 and recommended approval (5–0) before they came to council. No members of the public spoke during the hearings for either case, and council moved for separate votes. Councilmember Coachman moved to approve Resolution 26-02 and councilmember Barnaby seconded; the vote carried 5–0. Council then approved Resolution 26-03 by the same margin.
What happens next: staff will continue master-site planning, finalize building sizes and landscaping, and return to council as required for site-plan approvals and permitting related to the city-park and public-works relocation.
